I was invited by John and Vanessa to visit The Chagford Inn at the back of last year.
I couldn’t wait to see what they had done to the old ‘Bullers Arms’.
Just by walking through the door you can see this has been a refurbishment done with real passion.
The original features have been lovingly restored although the pub has been bought up to date
with the addition of simple yet modern features.
The front bar has an informal arrangement of tables where you can sit and relax with a drink or choose
a meal from their menu featuring a wide array of local produce.
Towards the back of the pub there is a further dining room that can be used for private parties.
You won’t be disappointed with the food at The Chagford Inn. John and his team aim is to produce
as much in-house as possible – this ranges from baking their own bread to curing their own bacon,
coppa, bresaola, salt beef, pastrami, fish and their own version of Serrano ham.
Where possible the kitchen is stocked with local produce.
The Chagford Inn now offers three comfortable ensuite bedrooms in this building which is to the rear of the pub.
This is the double ensuite situated on the ground floor. All rooms have ensuite shower rooms
and are all as clean as a ‘new pin’.
A lot of the artwork you will find in the rooms has been done by John himself.
Upstairs you will find this spacious ensuite twin room, along with …
... one further double ensuite room. All rooms are £60 per room low season, £70 mid season and £85 high season
which includes a full English breakfast. Dinner, Bed and Breakfast rates are available.
All rooms have wi-fi and are if you want to bring your four-legged friend with you the cost would be £5 per dog per night.
Displaying an ever changing range of artworks, each one runs roughly for three months and money raised
is donated to a local charity. The regular ‘Stitch & Bitch’ or Games nights makes the Chagford Inn feel
a real part of the community.
Finally, meet Percy, although John thinks he is the landlord I think Percy has other ideas!
I can’t wait to return to try the Dexter beef, see you soon …
